About a month ago I saw a news report of cheerleaders at a public high school in Fort Oglethorpe, GA who, as a remembrance of 9/11, have been hand painting scriptural messages on gigantic banners so their football team members could crash through the banners as inspiration at the beginning of each Friday night game.
This tradition has been ongoing for the past 8 years. However, when it was brought to the attention of the school district that this practice may violate the first amendment separation of church and state clause, the school district unilaterally banned the practice to avoid any potential lawsuits .
The news team interviewed numerous students, parents and residents of the community and it was clear that no one supported the school districts decision, and even the school board members expressed dismay and stated they only took this drastic action to avoid potential lawsuits. The news report ended by stating that the cheerleaders were attempting to hold pre-game rallys at another location on school grounds where they could continue to create the religiously oriented banners and have the team members crash through them before each game. I wondered at the time whether this practice would also violate the first amendment.
I recently stumbled upon this new article about the cheerleaders:
The actions of these cheerleaders mirrors the action I advocated in one of my previous blogs, suggesting that when atheists use the first amendment to quash religious speech, religious organizations should use the first amendment to bury atheists in the word of God. My specific suggestion was for churches to sponsor "Cross Planting" on private properties in response to atheists forcing the removal of crosses from federal properties.
Altghough there was no lawsuit in this cheerleader incident, the cheerleaders and the community responded in a way that was truly inspired by God. A drive was started to print scriptural verses on T-shirts and have fans wear the T-shirts to the games. The end result is, that instead of one scriptural verse on a gigantic banner, the games are now attended by hundreds of people with scriptural verses on their T-shirts. If there are any atheists in this town they will now be subjected to the word of God everywhere they look.
The more Christians are persecuted by atheists the more God will reveal himself to defeat the enemy.
